Search and safety
vui’s assistant can search the web for you. This page explains how that search works, what we filter out, how we look after younger users, and how to report a result or a reply. It sits alongside the terms of use and the privacy policy.
1. Who is responsible
vui is made by FLUXIONS LIMITED. Harry Coultas Blum, a director, is accountable for online safety in vui, including search, reports and complaints. You can reach us at [email protected].
2. How search works
- When you’re signed in, the assistant’s search words go to our server, which gets results from Brave Search. We don’t store the search words.
- When you’re signed out, the assistant searches Wikipedia only.
- The assistant may open a result page to read it. It then answers in its own words, using a model that runs on your iPhone.
- Answers are AI-generated. They can be wrong, out of date, or miss something important. Check anything that matters.
3. What we filter out
- Every search uses Brave’s strictest safe-search setting, which removes explicit results.
- We can block a website from all search results. When we find, or you report, a site with illegal or seriously harmful content, we block it for everyone.
No filter is perfect. If you see something that should not be there, please report it (section 5).
4. Younger users
- vui is for people aged 16 and over.
- The strict safe-search setting is always on, for everyone. It can’t be turned off.
- If someone mentions suicide, self-harm or being in danger, the assistant is told to respond with care and to point them to Samaritans (116 123 in the UK), 988 in the US, or emergency services.
If you’re struggling, you can call Samaritans free on 116 123 at any time, or 999 in an emergency.
5. Reporting a result or a reply
You can report a search result, a reply, or anything else about search:
- In the app: press and hold the reply, then tap Report this reply. This opens an email to us with the reply already in it. Add what was wrong and send it.
- By email: write to [email protected]. If you can, include what you asked, the reply or result, the link it came from, why you think it’s illegal or harmful, and roughly when it happened.
6. What happens next
- We reply to say we’ve got your report within 2 working days.
- We look at reports of illegal content first and act on them promptly. If we judge a site’s content to be illegal or seriously harmful, we block it from search results.
- We tell you what we decided and why.
- We keep a record of each report and what we did about it.
7. Appeals
If we blocked your website, or you disagree with a decision we made about your report, email [email protected] with “Appeal” in the subject and tell us why. Where we can, a different person reviews the decision. We aim to reply within 14 days, and we unblock a site if the appeal shows we got it wrong.
8. Ofcom
Ofcom regulates online safety in the UK. It doesn’t handle individual complaints, but you can tell it if you think we aren’t meeting our duties. See ofcom.org.uk/online-safety.
